Meadow Byre – Luxury 5-Star Former Milking Barn Sleeping 4

Meadow Byre is a fabulous 5-star self-catering cottage for up to 4 guests, set within the private Forest Barns hamlet in the Gloucestershire countryside, near the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean.

Once a milking parlour and cow byre, Meadow Byre is now a warm, spacious and characterful two-bedroom, two-bathroom cottage with a beautiful vaulted ceiling, exposed oak beams, underfloor heating, a real Jotul log burner and its own private hot tub.

Meadow Byre is especially well suited to small families, two couples, grandparents travelling with children, guests who prefer a mobility-friendly layout or anyone wanting a peaceful countryside cottage with comfort, character and easy access from parking.

It can be booked on its own for a relaxed cottage holiday, or alongside our other cottages for larger family gatherings, milestone celebrations, retreats, weddings and exclusive-use stays.

Peaceful Cottage Stays

Forest Barns is carefully managed so that standard cottage holidays remain peaceful. We do not mix individual cottage stays with large private weddings, celebrations or events, so you can relax and enjoy the type of stay you have booked.

Private weddings, celebrations and events are managed separately, with the relevant spaces and arrangements reserved for that booking.

Level Access and Mostly One-Level Comfort

One of Meadow Byre’s most useful features is its easy access. Guests can park in the flat parking area and follow a level route to the cottage entrance, making arrival and unloading much simpler.

Inside, Meadow Byre offers a mostly one-level layout, with the sitting room, kitchen, dining area, twin bedroom, family bathroom and general living space arranged without stairs. There are two shallow internal steps down into the master bedroom.

This layout can work especially well for guests who prefer to avoid stairs, grandparents travelling with family, two couples, or anyone looking for a more manageable cottage layout.

Please note that Meadow Byre is not described as fully wheelchair accessible so please check the Access Statement to confirm it meets your needs. If level access or mobility arrangements are important for your stay, please read the Meadow Byre Access Statement and contact us before booking so that we can talk through the layout carefully.

Take a Look Around Meadow Byre

Our short video gives you a better feel for Meadow Byre, including its vaulted ceiling, exposed oak beams, open-plan living space, private hot tub, courtyard setting and easy access from the parking area.

It is especially useful if you are comparing cottages, planning a stay for two couples, travelling with children, bringing dogs by arrangement, or looking for a comfortable cottage with level access from parking and a mostly one-level layout.

Kitchen, Dining and Living

Meadow Byre has a generous open-plan sitting, dining and kitchen area, with lovely proportions, honey-coloured limestone flooring, underfloor heating, a vaulted ceiling and exposed oak beams.

The kitchen has cream Shaker-style units and is well equipped for relaxed self-catering, with dishwasher, fridge, separate freezer, wine cooler, gas hob, oven and microwave.

The dining area seats 4 comfortably, with a glass bistro table and leather chairs. After a day walking, cycling, sightseeing or simply relaxing at Forest Barns, guests can settle onto the large corner sofa in front of the Norwegian Jotul log burner and enjoy the comfort of a real fire.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

Meadow Byre sleeps up to 4 guests in two bedrooms, with two bathrooms.

The master bedroom has a king-size bed and en-suite shower room, with a generous shower tray. This makes the cottage especially comfortable for couples sharing, grandparents, or guests who prefer their own bathroom space.

The second bedroom is a twin room with two 3-foot single beds, making Meadow Byre a good choice for children, friends, or mixed-generation stays.

The family bathroom has both a bath and a separate shower, which is a valuable feature for guests who like the choice of a proper soak or an easy shower.

A Z-bed may be available by request where suitable. Please check with us before booking if bedroom layout, bathroom arrangements or mobility access are important for your group.

Private Hot Tub and Courtyard Garden

Meadow Byre has its own private hot tub for guests to enjoy throughout the year.

Outside, the cottage has a pretty flagstone courtyard with garden furniture and space for relaxed drinks, reading, chatting or a simple barbecue.

The hot tub can be reached from the rear of Meadow Byre, with an alternative access route available via the end of the building and through the white iron gate. Please ask us before booking if access to the hot tub is important for your stay.

Families and Children

Children are very welcome at Meadow Byre.

The cottage works well for small families because it has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a manageable layout, comfortable open-plan living space and easy access to the wider Forest Barns grounds.
