Orchard Barn is a luxury 5-star self-catering cottage for up to 6 guests, set within the private Forest Barns hamlet in the Gloucestershire countryside, near the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean.

This detached 17th-century stone barn is warm, spacious and full of character, with three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a dramatic oak-vaulted living space, underfloor heating, a real log burner, an enclosed garden and its own private hot tub overlooking meadow and woodland.

Orchard Barn is perfect for families, grandparents travelling with children, three couples, friends sharing a countryside break, or guests attending a wider Forest Barns gathering. It can be booked on its own for a peaceful cottage holiday, or alongside our other cottages for larger family celebrations, retreats, weddings and exclusive-use stays.

Guests love Orchard Barn because it gives them the best of both worlds: the privacy of their own luxury cottage, together with the shared grounds, games room, children’s play areas, walks, gardens and gathering spaces of Forest Barns.

A Spacious Detached Stone Barn with Meadow Views

Orchard Barn was originally built to house hay and animals for The Manor. Today, it has been carefully converted into a warm and inviting country cottage, sitting on the edge of its own long meadow within our tiny private hamlet.

Step inside and you arrive on honey-coloured limestone flooring, warmed by underfloor heating. The main living area is a beautiful double-height space with an oak-vaulted roof, generous seating and large areas of glass to the north and south, allowing the countryside to feel part of the room.

At the heart of the sitting area is a large glass-fronted Norwegian Jotul log burner. In colder months, it gives Orchard Barn the atmosphere guests hope for from a proper country escape: soft lighting, real flames, comfortable sofas and somewhere lovely to settle after a day exploring.

The 26-foot open-plan sitting, dining and kitchen area gives everyone space to cook, eat and relax together. The farmhouse dining table seats up to 10, which is especially useful when Orchard Barn forms part of a wider Forest Barns family or group booking.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

Orchard Barn sleeps up to 6 guests in three bedrooms.

There are two king-size bedrooms with en-suite facilities, making the cottage especially comfortable for couples sharing, grandparents travelling with family, or adult friends staying together.

The ground-floor twin bedroom has two 3-foot single beds and has the ground-floor family bathroom with bath and shower over next to it. This layout can work well for children, older guests who prefer to avoid stairs, guests with some mobility needs, or mixed-generation family stays.

There is a disabled parking space and a flat access route to the front door, after which the main Orchard Barn accommodation is arranged on one level. Please note that some photographs show the stepped approach to Orchard Barn, but this is not the only route.

The kitchen is fully equipped for a relaxed self-catering stay, whether you are making easy breakfasts, cooking a family supper, or preparing food for a longer holiday.

A local produce welcome hamper is provided, including eggs from our chickens where available. Guests can also enjoy the wider Forest Barns setting, with options such as private chefs, pre-order food arrangements, spa treatments and bookable on-site experiences depending on availability and the type of stay.

Outside there is: parking. lawned garden which is safely enclosed, seating area for BBQ or just chatting with friends.   The under 5's have their own play barn too and Young Farmers Club area with Dennis the Dexta Tractor to climb on and chickens to feed and collect their eggs.

Private Hot Tub and Enclosed Garden

Orchard Barn has its own private hot tub for guests to enjoy throughout the year, with peaceful meadow and woodland views.

The enclosed lawned garden gives children and dogs space to enjoy being outside, while adults can sit, chat, read, enjoy a drink or plan a relaxed barbecue. Orchard Barn is detached, so it feels private and tucked away, while still being part of the Forest Barns hamlet.

There is free on-site parking, and guests can also enjoy the shared grounds, games room, outdoor play area, under-5s play room, Young Farmers Club area, Dennis the Dexta tractor and the chance to feed the chickens and collect eggs.

Families and Children

Children are very welcome at Orchard Barn. Forest Barns works especially well for families because there is space to be together, but also space for everyone to retreat when they need quiet time.

On site, children can enjoy the shared games room, outdoor play area, under-5s play barn, Young Farmers Club area, Dennis the Dexta tractor and the chance to feed the chickens and collect eggs.

To make travelling with younger children easier, we can provide a range of baby and toddler items at no extra charge. Please request these at the time of booking so that we can prepare the cottage properly for your arrival.

Dogs Welcome by Prior Arrangement

Dogs are welcome at Orchard Barn by prior arrangement at the time of booking. Fees apply.

The enclosed garden, Pet Meadow and local woodland walks make Orchard Barn a strong choice for guests who want to bring their four-legged friend. To make life easier, we provide useful dog-friendly touches such as a dog bed, water bowl, green towel, sofa throws, poo bags, a red dog waste bin and local veterinary information.

There are dog-friendly pubs and places to eat in the local area, and the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley are wonderful for walking with dogs.

Please tell us about your dog before booking so that we can make sure Orchard Barn is suitable and ready for your stay.

Orchard Barn can be booked as a single luxury cottage for 6 guests, or as part of a larger Forest Barns stay.

Across the hamlet, Forest Barns sleeps up to 26 guests in five luxury self-catering cottages, each with its own private hot tub. Larger family gatherings and agreed private events can also make use of shared dining and function spaces, allowing everyone to eat together while still having the privacy of their own cottage.

For larger groups, Orchard Barn works particularly well alongside The Stables, The Manor, Meadow Byre and Brambles.
