Description
The Manor – Luxury 5-Star Farmhouse Sleeping 8
A secluded 17th-century farmhouse for up to 8 guests, with private hot tub, secure gardens, meadow views, Aga kitchen, two sitting rooms and original country character.
The Manor is the largest and most traditional cottage at Forest Barns: a luxury self-catering farmhouse set within its own secure gardens on the edge of a six-acre meadow, in our private Gloucestershire hamlet near the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean.
Sleeping up to 8 guests across 4 bedrooms, with 3 bathrooms, The Manor is ideal for multi-generational families, grandparents gathering children and grandchildren, two families sharing, or friends looking for a relaxed country house stay with space, privacy and comfort.
It has the feel of a proper country home: an Aga kitchen, a generous dining table, two sitting rooms with log burners, original beams and stonework, meadow views, a private hot tub and easy access to the wider Forest Barns grounds.
The Manor can be booked on its own for a peaceful family cottage holiday, or alongside our other cottages for larger family gatherings, milestone celebrations, retreats, weddings and exclusive-use stays.
Peaceful Family Cottage Stays
The Manor is offered as a peaceful family cottage stay, unless it forms part of an agreed group booking, wedding, celebration or exclusive-use arrangement.
Forest Barns does not mix individual cottage stays with large private weddings, celebrations or events, so you can relax and enjoy the type of stay you have booked.

A Proper Country House for Family Time Together
The Manor is the cottage to choose when you want space to gather properly.
It works beautifully for families who want to cook, eat, talk, play, celebrate and relax together without feeling cramped. The house has enough space for everyone to be part of the holiday, but also enough separate rooms for different generations to spread out.
Grandparents can enjoy the comfort and character of the farmhouse. Children can use the garden, games room, play areas and wider Forest Barns grounds. Adults can enjoy the hot tub, log burners, long meals around the table and peaceful evenings looking out across the meadow.
This is not just a place to sleep. It is a house designed for the kind of country stay where people slow down, eat well, spend time together and make memories.
Take a Look Around The Manor
Kitchen and Dining
At the heart of The Manor is the warm farmhouse kitchen and dining area.
The Aga gives the kitchen a proper country-house feel, while the dining table seats up to 10, making it ideal for family breakfasts, relaxed suppers, birthday meals, Sunday lunches or long evenings together after a day exploring Gloucestershire, the Wye Valley or the Forest of Dean.
For many families, the kitchen table is where the holiday really happens. It is where children appear in pyjamas, plans are made, wine is poured, grandparents talk, board games begin and everyone gathers again at the end of the day.
The Manor is fully equipped for self-catering, with practical kitchen facilities for family cooking and easy holiday meals. Private chefs, pre-order food options and special celebration touches may also be available by arrangement, depending on the type of stay and availability.
Two Sitting Rooms with Log Burners
One of The Manor’s greatest advantages is having two sitting rooms.
This makes a real difference for families and groups. Adults can settle in one room with the fire lit, while children or teenagers watch a film or play games in the other. Guests can gather together when they want to, but there is space to step away and enjoy a quieter moment too.
Each sitting room has an inglenook and log burner, giving The Manor warmth, atmosphere and that proper country-house feeling in autumn, winter and cooler spring evenings.
With comfortable seating, Sky TV and fibre Wi-Fi, The Manor works just as well for cosy weekends and Christmas-style breaks as it does for summer holidays.
Bedrooms and Bathrooms
The Manor sleeps up to 8 guests across 4 bedrooms, with 3 bathrooms.
The layout includes 2 en-suite king bedrooms, making the house especially comfortable for adults sharing, grandparents joining a family holiday, or two families travelling together.
A Z-bed may be available by request where suitable, but please check with us before booking if your sleeping arrangements are important. We know the house well and can help you decide whether The Manor is the right fit for your group.
For guests planning a larger Forest Barns stay, The Manor combines well with Orchard Barn, The Stables, Meadow Byre and Brambles, allowing different households or generations to stay close together while still having their own private cottage space.
Private Hot Tub and Secure Garden
The Manor has its own private hot tub, set within the garden for Manor guests to enjoy throughout the year.
It is a lovely place to relax after a family walk, a day out in the Forest of Dean, a cycle ride, a wedding viewing, or simply a peaceful afternoon in the grounds.
The secure private garden is one of The Manor’s most important features. It gives children space to play and dogs space to enjoy being outside, while adults can sit, chat, read or enjoy a drink in the fresh Gloucestershire countryside.
The Manor sits on the edge of a six-acre meadow, giving a wonderful feeling of space and seclusion while still being part of the Forest Barns private hamlet.
Families and Children
Children are very welcome at The Manor.
The house is particularly well suited to multi-generational family stays because it offers space indoors and outdoors. There is room for grandparents, parents and children to gather together, but also room for quieter moments when different ages want different things.
On site, children can enjoy the shared games room, outdoor play area, under-5s play area, gardens, chickens, Pet Meadow and open countryside surroundings.
To make travelling with younger children easier, we can provide a range of baby and toddler items at no extra charge. Please request these at the time of booking so that we can prepare The Manor properly for your arrival.
